The Eden Initiative

One Earth... One Initiative

About Us

Ward Ashley

Chief Executive Officer

It all happened for me over twenty years ago, this leap of faith that led me to try and make a difference for our planet. It was the period in my life when I made my living from owning and operating specialized Ophthalmic Health Clinics. My business had taken me to the Philippines where I came across entire families living in garbage dumps. These families had no other choice but to bath in and drink sewage water. In an instant, my mission in life shifted from eyes to water. It was obvious to me that although helping people see was a noble profession; I wasn't going to save lives by doing it.

Our watersheds are in deplorable condition and deteriorating quickly. Only through action to clean up our watersheds can we start to undue the harm that is affecting every living organism on this planet. We all live in watersheds, whether we know it or not. All watersheds co-exist with one other; therefore each of us is responsible for the health of every watershed on this planet. That's exactly what Eden Initiative is all about, saving lives by protecting and preserving life's precious blood; water. And that's our plan, one watershed at a time.

There isn't any specific reason or event that lead me on the path of environmentalism. I wish I could share a heart wrenching, dramatic tale of a young lady turning towards the heroism that is eco-protectionism. The truth, however, is very simple, I knew I could make a difference. As a young child I would always insist upon my parents recycling. As I matured I became sick and tired of watch groups declaring the world was going to end and there was nothing anyone would do about it. There is not a single doubt in my mind that we can change the fate of our planet. I truly believe, if we all make changes in our daily lives, we can stop the effects of global warming. I have a very simple mission, do my part in healing our earth. By changing current mining practices, reclaiming contaminated sights, recycling or simply lugging a mug, we can ease the burden of our human footprint. Let's stop making excuses, forecasting the fate of our planet and join forces to make change. Only through change and responsible action can we reclaim the health of our planet. We all have the power to make a difference, lets take that step forward together.

We always have a choice. We choose where we go, what we do, and, at minimum, how we feel. No one can take that away from us. It's easy to turn a blind eye and choose not to see what is going on around us. I hardly call this living. The truth is whether you are aware of the world around us or not, it is what allows us to breathe. We owe our lives to every beautiful square inch of it and our Mother hardly gets the attention and thanks she deserves. Everyday we abuse her as she continues to nurture and give to us. I cannot turn a blind eye to this. I choose to give my thanks to her in any and every way I possibly can and I sincerely hope you will do the same. There is no big secret to changing our world. It starts with a simple choice. Choose to love her and the solutions will follow. We are never alone. She is always with us whispering, "Here is what you need. Continue to grow with me."
